Bidimensional Treatment Planning System for photon Beams

Bullet Kenos is the New Bidimensional Treatment Planning System for high energy photon beams presented by Nuclemed S.A.

Bullet Kenos replaces Platon V3.1, adding additional functions and an advanced and user friendly interface.

Bullet As all products developed by Nuclemed S.A., KENOS runs on a PC under Windows Operating System, ensuring an economic, scalable and easy to maintain hardware platform.

Bullet Despite its 2D image management Kenos has implemented a 3D algorithm for dose calculation with improved precision compared with its predecessor Platon V3.1.

Patient Data.

Bullet A set of images of either MRI or CT scans can be loaded. Although only one axial slice is required to plan the treatment, the user can select up to five axial slices for planning.

Bullet Kenos supports importing images in DICOM 3.0 format. If images from the scanner are in other format, they can be imported anyway with the RAW format option. If you have to scan images right from the film you can import them using the BMP/JPG format option, so you will never be frustrated. You can even enter patient's contours with a digitizer.

Bullet Kenos allows defining up to fifteen regions of interest. Regions of interest can be defined manually or automatically using segmentation tools.

Bullet The user can assign different densities to regions of interest. Corrections for heterogeneities are taken into account in dose calculation.

Dose Distributions & Verification Tools

Dose distributions are displayed over the high resolution images as isodose lines. The User can choose isodose values and line colours. Dose distribution can be normalized to the maximum dose or to any user defined point as the isocenter. Points of interest can be defined to monitor the dose. Dose profiles can be displayed on any line defined by two points selected by the user.

Dosimetrical Data & Calculation Algorithms

The Dosimetrical Data Library or Beam Data Base contents the basic experimental data of each Treatment Unit (accelerators or cobalt units) in which Kenos relies to perform calculations of dose distributions. Kenos has a user friendly graphic interface for entering dosimetrical data. You will not believe how easily you will commission a photon beam. Experimental curves such as PDDs and OARs can be imported in ASCII format. Kenos has data generating routines for field sizes that have not been measured. Storage of an unlimited number of Treatment Units is allowed.

bullet Kenos has two dose calculation algorithms and two different resolution options. You can opt for the faster algorithm when optimizing the plan and for the more exact one with more resolution for final calculation. The Equivalent Beam method is a fast algorithm but it does not take into account heterogeneity’s lateral extension or lack of scatter in irregular fields. The Scatter Integration Algorithm is a three dimensional algorithm and can be launched in two different spatial resolutions.

Beam Definition
bullet Kenos has an exclusive window with a beam’s eye view for beam definition. From there all beam parameters can be set and the calculation mode selected. The user can draw irregular blocks as apertures or shields on the field. Beam modifiers as wedge filters and trays are also selected.

bullet Kenos supports both fix and rotating beams. In a same treatment plan the user can combine beams of different Treatment Units and energies
